The Way Church KC is a gospel-centered church plant in the Rosedale neighborhood of Kansas City, KS. We exist to follow the Way of Jesus and push back darkness — together. We’re a diverse, Scripture-fed, Spirit-led community of people from all kinds of backgrounds: young adults, families, creatives, and people in recovery. We’re not a perfect church — we’re a community of misfits and saints who believe Jesus changes everything.

We’re rooted in Rosedale, one of the most vibrant and diverse neighborhoods on the Kansas side of Kansas City. We love this neighborhood — and we’re here to serve it and see it flourish.

Our Lead Pastor and Church Planter is Zach Schemmer. Zach is pursuing an MDiv in Preaching & Pastoral Ministry from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and holds a BA in Biblical Studies from Spurgeon College. On January 20, 2015, Jesus saved him out of a life of addiction — and that story shapes everything about how he leads and preaches. Zach and his family live in and love Kansas City.

We’re a young church — about two years old and growing! We launched in 2024 and have been building a community of around 60–70 people who are committed to following Jesus together and making a real difference in Kansas City.

We meet on Sundays at 10:30am. Doors open at 9:30am — come a little early, grab some coffee, and meet some people.

Expect a warm, casual, and genuine experience. We’ll have some music, some announcements, and then a sermon straight from the Bible — no smoke and mirrors, just the Word. We’re a small enough church that people actually talk to each other, so don’t be surprised if someone introduces themselves. You’re not going to get called out or put on the spot — just come as you are and see what we’re about. You can learn more on our Plan a Visit page.

Whatever you’re comfortable in. Seriously. We’ve got people who come in jeans and a t-shirt, and people who come in their Sunday best. There’s no dress code here — Jesus cares way more about your heart than your outfit.

Our services typically run about 75 minutes. We don’t drag it out — but we also don’t rush what God is doing.

We have a parking lot on-site as well as street parking available along Lloyd Street. Parking is free — just pull in and come on through.

Yes! We start worship together as a family, and then kids are dismissed to kids ministry during the service. We love having children in our church family, and our kids ministry is a safe, fun environment where your kids can learn about Jesus at their level. You can learn more on our WayKids page.

Absolutely — and we mean that. Our pastor is someone Jesus saved out of addiction on January 20, 2015, and that story is woven into the DNA of this church. We are not a place where you have to have it all together to belong. If you’re in recovery, if you’ve got a past, if you’ve been told you’re too far gone — you are exactly the kind of person Jesus came for, and you are welcome here. Yes! We’re a family-oriented church and we love having kids and parents in our community. We start every Sunday together as one family in worship, and then kids are dismissed to kids ministry so they can learn about Jesus at their level while you go deeper in the Word. Very much so. A big part of our congregation is young adults — musicians, creatives, photographers, entrepreneurs, people who are figuring out faith and life at the same time. If you’re in your 20s or 30s and you’re skeptical of church but curious about Jesus, come find us. We think you’ll feel at home.

The best first step is just to show up on a Sunday. From there, fill out a connect card (available at the welcome table) and sign up for our Next Steps Class — a short, casual gathering where you can learn more about The Way KC and find your place in the community. Yes! We have MDWK — our midweek gathering every Wednesday at 6:30pm. It’s a smaller, more intimate setting where we dig into Scripture, pray together, and actually do life with each other. If Sunday is where you show up, Wednesday is where you go deeper. Everyone is welcome.

Yes — 100%. You don’t need any church background, any Bible knowledge, or any “religious” experience to come on a Sunday. We’ll explain what we’re doing and why. We use normal language, not church jargon. And we genuinely believe the gospel — the story of Jesus — is for every person, regardless of where they’ve been.
